About Open Heart Yoga

Open Heart Yoga honors the wisdom of body, mind and spirit. The practice of asana, meditation, and opening up to the knowing heart of compassion allows us to embrace what it means to be truly human. Whether you are stepping onto the path of yoga for the first time or have been practicing for many years there is a place for you in this community.

Barbara King first discovered yoga and meditation while attending college. After completing her studies in psychology and philosophy she lived at a Zen retreat center in the Santa Cruz Mts. for several years. She was a student of Kobun Chino Otogawa until his passing in 2002. Barbara raised her beautiful daughter while working at the local community college serving students of all ages and backgrounds. Now she devotes herself full time to sharing yoga and meditation with Open Heart Yoga students.

Barbara is a 500hr RYT and meditation teacher. She is a compassion educator, certified by the Applied Compassion Academy and CCARE, The Center for Compassion Altruism Research and Education at Stanford University. Barbara is a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher trained by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. She is also an Awakening Joy teacher. Awakening Joy is a program developed by James Baraz, co-founder of Spirit Rock Meditation Center.
